Donating blood saves lives in more ways than you know

Donating blood has always been the right thing to do. It offers multiple benefits, both for the recipient and the donor. While blood donation can save lives, and it can also provide the donor with some health benefits, including a free health checkup, balanced iron levels, and reduced risk of some cancers. One of our own firefighters discovered he had low iron levels while donating blood and temporarily could not donate. After a consult with his doctor, he is on iron pills and feels much better not realizing before there was even an issue.

The Graafschap Fire Department has sponsored an American Red Cross blood drive for just over a year. Our numbers have increased each drive, so the ARC opens up more slots. As you can see in the screen shot of our dashboard below, we have some open slots next Thursday, May 29. Click here and enter 49423 in the search bar, then click our blood drive to see what times are available and register.

Come to give blood May 19 to 31 for a limited edition Red Cross solar lantern, while supplies last.

We are grateful so many of you have stepped up to donate blood. You really are making a difference in our local community. THANK YOU!
