Ceremony for 3 new Firefighters

Before the Monday evening training meeting, 3 firefighters received their badges and helmet shields. This ceremony was the culmination of a one year probationary period which included a fire academy, EMT school, and certification by the fire chief that they are fit for duty.

Alex Nevarez, Alec Boeve, and Breckin Bigelow, seen above, took their oath to protect and serve the residents of Laketown and Western Fillmore Townships. Alex and Breckin came to us after completing a fire academy at another location, so they were put through a series of tests at GFD similar to the Firefighter Combat Challenge.

The badge pinning portion of the ceremony was performed by someone important in the life of the firefighter. This is a long-standing tradition in the fire service.

No ceremony would be complete with some cake and the famous GFD beverage of choice, Ginger Ale punch.
