Blood drive participation increases

American Red Cross will utilize more space at the Graafschap Fire Department

On May 30th, Graafschap Fire Department hosted its fourth blood drive in collaboration with the American Red Cross. Due to the generosity of local residents, the ARC will transition from the meeting room to the apparatus bay for the next event to utilize the bigger space.

This past drive, 4 donation stations were in use, which made for tight working conditions for the staff and donors in the meeting room. The new space in the apparatus bay will provide a comfortable work-space and more privacy for donors since they will be spread out over a wider area. Finished in 1999, the new fire station was a big step forward for the fire department providing space for the future.

Society has placed many new responsibilities on the fire service in the past few decades and our area is not unique in that fact. In the past few years, GFD has realized the importance of community risk reduction and involvement with the community preventing and mitigating issues before they happen. Along with the free smoke detector program, home safety surveys, rental safety inspections, the blood drives are a benefit to those in dire need of whole blood and other blood products.

08/29/2024 | 10:00 AM – 04:00 PM is the next blood drive.
